We are just across from Salisbury Bus Station, on the corner, on the end of the bingo hall.

We are always pleased to hear from young people who want to volunteer to work at The Unit, as well as young people with ideas for projects or events.

PS. You’ll usually meet Heather, Keith, or one of our volunteers at The Unit. Heather works during the days and runs some of the projects. Sometimes she has to go to meetings – she’ll leave a note on the door to let you know when she’s back. Keith works the after school/college hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tim, Ruth, Juliet, Nessa and Lucy are all busy with various projects and doing the boring behind the scenes admin but you;’re worth it!

ABOUT THE UNIT

The Unit is a youth promotions project based in Wiltshire.

Places to go.  Things to do.  Changes to be made.

It is an independent, non-political social enterprise broadly aiming to use creative approaches to empower and nurture a sense of agency in young people;  i.e. encourage young people to take action and change/influence/be responsible for / be involved in the world they live in.

The Unit was initially developed in consultation with young people using online social networking, and is now based in a previously empty shop unit in Salisbury, as well as an ever expanding online profile through facebook, twitter and posterous.

The Unit launched on March 27th 2010 and already has an active youth committee and young volunteers. We have developed strong links with local arts and sports providers, are welcomed by the local community and local authority, providing a focal point regarding things to do & places to go for young people.

The project is unique as it is independent, simple, and dynamic, able to respond quickly to young people’s ideas and feedback, but relies on project managers and adult volunteers for support.
