Quirky meets conventional in Youth Hub Design competition
August 30, 2011 No CommentsTwo pupils from Sarum Academy created the winning design for a Super Youth Hub in a competition run by youth project The Unit.
Lauren Martin and Kyrie Clark, both 13, fought off tough competition from over thirty other entries to win tickets to an exclusive architecture event at Roche Court. The competition was organised as part of The Unit’s Re-Vision project; design workshops which urge young people to present their views about Salisbury Vision’s development plans.
Architect Tim Scrace who voluntarily runs the Re-Vision project said: “The Unit had a brilliant response to our competition to design a Super Youth Hub. We had some great ideas from Goldfish sensory rooms to Rock concert rooftops. The competition winners were chosen from a shortlist by the Chairman of Salisbury Vision, Sir Christopher Benson. The winning entry presented two very different youth centre buildings – one for sports and activities and the other for studyingand meeting people.”
The Re-Vision concept allows young people to have their say and helps them to gain valuable experience working with architects and designers. Free for all young people aged between 13 and 19 to attend, Re-Vision begins again with workshops on the 14th and 28th September when young people will be invited to develop the youth hub ideas.
